Four NAMIC-Tennessee members attend NAMIC Leadership Seminar in Los Angeles, California on April 10 – 12, 2017. NAMIC-TN President Jill Hollingsworth (Scripps Networks Interactive (SNI), Kristin Motley (SNI), Crystal Swallows (SNI), and Woody Jackson (Comcast) are among the 40 attendees from various telecommunication companies such as Discovery Communications, Viacom and Turner among others. The seminar focused on exploring professional strengths, identifying performance-related development gaps, mastering techniques, forgiving and receiving motivating feedback, and becoming more familiar with tools for conflict resolution and decision-making in a diverse environment.

Swallows said one of her biggest takeaways from the seminar is keeping a done list instead of a to-do list.  “It’s important to realize what you have done versus what you still have left to do. If you focus on your to-do list, you are only looking at what you have left to do and not what you have accomplished,” said Swallows. She furthered that this has helped her personally and professionally.

“You have to be intentional in your efforts every day, be who you are, do what you say you are going to do, service to others is critical in building quality relationships, ensuring that we invest in our people daily, to develop the next great leaders in our industry, and make sure that they understand that diversity is paramount in the overall success of all efforts to embrace success,” said Jackson.

In an email, James C. Jones, Senior Vice President, Education and Diversity Solutions of NAMIC, Inc. praised all attendees for their incredible energy and dynamism. “You brought as much as you took away,” he said. “I expect to run into many of you in future positions of influence across the industry.” Attendees of the LA Leadership Seminar are given a free one-year NAMIC membership.  The next NAMIC leadership seminar will be held in Philadelphia, PA on July 12-14 and in Dallas, TX on October 25-27.
